Portrait of Liz Kremer
Liz Kremer is a visual arts teacher at a dual language immersion school in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Originally from Madison, she moved to Milwaukee for college and has called it home ever since. Liz began her teaching career in 2012 within Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS), where she has taught in a range of settings, including an alternative high school, a traditional elementary school, and now a Spanish language immersion school.
Over the years, Liz has become a bilingual, dedicated, and resourceful educator with a strong foundation in studio arts and research. She is passionate about urban education and committed to teaching in diverse environments, with a special interest in mentoring early-career teachers. Her teaching is guided by a culturally relevant, anti-racist, and student-centered approach. Drawing on Dr. Olivia Gude’s concept of “Big Ideas,” Liz integrates academic subjects, contemporary artists, visual culture, and art history to create meaningful, culturally affirming lessons that help students see themselves in their learning.
The graduate program at UW-Madison, combined with the embedded coaching certification, will allow me to further develop my ability to collaborate with organizations and individuals. I mentor many student teachers and a long term goal is to move into a coaching role in MPS or in another place. I work to be a lifelong learner, activist, and advocate for the arts, and I see this program as an opportunity to expand my ability to mentor other educators and deepen my impact in the field.
