Mary Louise Gomez is a professor of literacy studies and teacher education at the University of Wisconsin-Madison where she has been a member of the Department of Curriculum and Instruction for over 30 years. Mary Louise conducts qualitative research concerning the understandings that aspiring, prospective, and practicing teachers bring to their work with students of color in their classrooms, and how they develop strategies to build relationships with them, and encourage their achievement. She especially enjoys teaching graduate and undergraduate students, conducting research, and mentoring graduate students. She has published in journals such as Teaching and Teacher Education, Anthropology and Education Quarterly, Language Arts, the Urban Review, Teaching Education, and Race, Ethnicity, and Education.
