Mary Louise Gomez is Professor of Literacy Studies and Teacher Education in the Department of Curriculum & Instruction at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. The MSPE courses she teaches are Teaching Diverse Learners and Current Issues in Education.
Teaching Diverse Learners is designed to support teachers’ critical reflection on their own ideals and perspectives about diverse families and students, to prepare teachers to use pedagogical practices that will support the learning and achievement of marginalized student populations, and to implement multiple means of assessing diverse students’ class products and performances. Current Issues in Education is designed to offer teachers the opportunity to explore deeply issues of interest to them that affect their teaching and relationships with students and their families, and to disseminate their investigations to other teachers, faculty, and researchers.
Mary Louise’s research focuses on the intersections of race, class, gender, ability, sexual orientation, language background, and teaching and learning.
